Lucas and toys

Raymond grew up pretty poor so he didn't have much toys. To satisfy his wants, he would take toys from stores or even from friend's home. This resulted in many repeated beatings by the chicken feather duster. For some reason, around age 7, he stopped stealing toys and so did the beatings. But it still surprised us that Lucas was so interested in toys. At around four months, we began to see Lucas reaching for things to put in his mouth. These are usually colorful items such as baby toys.

Before he was born, Paulina and I didn't know why so many parents spoil their kids with so many toys. Now we know. It is the best distraction. If he is crying, give him a toy... result is silence... If he is squirming making it difficult to change his diaper, give him a toy... If you want to clip his nails but keeps pulling his hand away, give him a toy in the other hand... You get the picture. The good thing is that he likes books also, but only for chewing and not reading yet...

Colorful toys that make noises are the best.

Great for chewing on too!

One plastic ring... come on dad... I see more behind you!

Mommy has a cool camcorder to replay videos of Lucas.

Lucas and Friends

Our church saw a burst of babies in 2007 and 2008. Including both the chinese and english congregations we had a baby born every month of 2008 sometimes more. In our fellowship, the closest in age with Lucas is Joshua (3 months older), Kyra (three weeks older), and Isaac (3 weeks younger). It is so amazing to see them interact and grow together. They make very similar noises and gestures. When one cries, I always turn to see if it was Lucas. So far, they seem to ignore each other but occasionally one would try to grab another's eye. It's so nice to be going through the same phases as other parents.

Lucas falling onto Kyra. Lucas can't sit still, he's alway leaning to one side or another so when we sat him next to Kyra, he just leaned to her hoping she would catch her but guess not.

She tried to stop him from falling this time.

There he goes again... leaning and falling towards Kyra. Check out his tongue?!?!

Kyra getting a better grip and giving him the look to sit still.

Joshua and Lucas almost bumped heads crawling around.

Lucas and Isaac at three months.

Isaac and Lucas at eight months. Isaac is a much better sitter, Lucas prefers to crawl than to sit still.

Lucas Seventh Month - eating solids

This month we started feeding solids to Lucas on a regular basis. I don't know why they call it solids, a better name should be "MUSH". We take solid foods and puree it until you don't recognize it anymore. The typical ingredients are avocadoes, bananas, apples, pears, oatmeal cereal, and breastmilk. Most meals are just avocadoes and bananas. We tried baby food from the supermarket and found out he takes after his mother in tastes. Raymond can eat most foods without complaint but Paulina makes a yucky face and her mouth paralyzes from movement. Lucas will not close his mouth is something does not taste good like mixed vegetables with spinach.
